From the 7th single onwards, BACKS Members (BACKSメンバー) refer to the non-senbatsu members of Sakurazaka46.
Originally, BACKS Members were the third-row members of Sakurazaka46's title and primary coupling tracks, or the non-Sakura Eight members, for their 1st to 5th singles. During this period, unlike the Undergirls system for ALL48 Groups and Nogizaka46, some BACKS members did participate in the title tracks for each single. The BACKS members for each single were paired with one of the centers from Sakura Eight and positioned in the third row for the corresponding songs with their matched center.
Starting with the 7th single, the new senbatsu system was introduced for the first time, dividing the group into senbatsu and BACKS Members. The BACKS Members would now work similarly to Nogizaka46's Under Members, including only the non-selected members of the senbatsu, with the unit singing one of the single's B-sides and also having their own live concert.
The term "BACKS Members" was first coined for BACKS LIVE!!, a concert featuring only the third-row members. The first Sakurazaka46 song with BACKS-only members was Sonia, a coupling track for the 3rd single, Nagaredama.
BACKS Members received their first music video for Abura wo Sase!, a coupling track for the 8th single Ikutsu no Koro ni Modoritai no ka?.

Trivia[]
- Unlike Nogizaka46's Under Members and Hinatazaka46's Hiragana Hinatazaka46, the BACKS also included members who were part of senbatsu. This changed with the new system implemented for the senbatsu of the 7th single "Shoninyokkyu".
- "Start over!" is currently the only single to not include a BACKS line-up. This is due to all of the 1st and 2nd generation members (minus Endo Hikari, who was absent from the release) being selected for senbatsu.
