COVID-19 Cases

List of performers and staff members of AKB48 Group and Sakamichi Series (both current and former) who tested positive for COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) during the global COVID-19 pandemic that was declared an official public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) from January 30, 2020 to May 5, 2023.

• All information provided is subject to change.
• Although the WHO ended its PHEIC declaration on May 5, 2023, new cases are still expected to be reported.
• Out of all the reported cases, 30+ have been second-time cases and 1 has been fatal.
• The dates with the most reported cases are as followed:
  • Day: April 5, 2022 (16)
  • Month: August 2021 (57)
  • Year: 2022 (150+)
• Obara Yoshio and Machaaki were the first members of any 46/48 group to test positive for COVID-19.
  • Takita Kayoko was the first AKB48 Group member to test positive.
  • Ma YuLing, Shen XiaoAi, Liu ZengYan, Lu TianHui, and Qing YuWen were the first known SNH48 Group members to be infected with the virus.
    • Lu TianHui was also the first member of any disbanded 46/48 group (both during the pandemic and prior) to test positive.
  • Zhao Yue was the first SNH48 Group member (current or former) publicly revealed to have tested positive.
  • Iwata Karen was the first graduated member of any group to test positive.
  • Kato Yuuka was the first member of any group to test positive more than once.
  • Hinatazaka46 was the first group to have all active members test positive at least once at any time.
    • The last three new cases were reported on July 25, 2022, while the results of the 4th Generation auditions were still pending.
  • SNH48 Group did not have a publicly reported case until December 14, 2022, 2^1/2 years after the first reported case in the 46/48 Group, making them the group with the longest time before a member was announced to have tested positive.
    • However, the identities of any member testing positive would not be revealed until Zhao Yue's case on December 25, 2022.
  • EZAKI MASARU was the first person involved with any of the groups to have a fatal case.
• As of August 2022, Ihara Hanna is the youngest person to test positive (aged 10) and EZAKI MASARU is the oldest (aged 55).
• Despite China being the country where the first outbreak occurred, there are currently no members of AKB48 Team SH, CKG48, CGT48, JNR48, or IDOLS Ft who have had any reported cases.
• Not all former members are active in the public eye or on social media, so there is a possibility that any positive case amongst some of these members were not publicly reported.
  • There are currently no former members of SDN48, SGO48, DEL48, or OJS48 who have had any reported cases.
  • There are also no reported cases amongst the members of TPE48 who graduated prior to the announcement of AKB48 Team TP, the members of SHY48 who graduated prior to the group's disbandment, the members of CKG48 who graduated prior to the group's initial disbandment and subsequent reformation, or the members of IDOLS Ft who either graduated or were promoted.
